What would touring with Troubadour be like?
We are a small charity with very limited resources and our tours endeavour to reach areas of the UK which have no arts infrastructure. During your time with us you will be more likely to be performing on a garden green with no lighting than anything resembling an arts venue.
We perform without set, lighting or additional sound amplification. Our shows are intimate and lively, unique to every evening and venue. Due to the nature of the communities and venues we visit our method of working and living can be unorthodox: indoor camping with unusual bathing facilities are a fairly normal
occurrence for instance.
Being part of the troupe includes many tasks outside onstage acting: venue relationship building, listening to members of the local community, ironing costumes, packing the car, helping with the evening meal (and sometimes even pumpkin carving).
Our ideal trouper is a problem solver who is interested in learning all areas of theatre craft, is happy to direct (and be directed by) fellow troupers, is eager to get involved in whatever the day brings us and able to adjust to last minute changes of plan, timetables and unexpected obstacles. While on the road there is little distinction between work and downtime.Â
Touring with us is a wonderful anarchic adventure, full of extraordinary unexpected twists and turns- we guarantee many fabulous stories by the end, but it is not a way of life for everyone. Before applying do take a moment to consider your working style and whether this is an environment you will enjoy! We look forward to hearing from you soon.Â
